Booking For BMW R18 Cruiser Open in India: Cruiser BMW R18 is a work of art! It was in the making for a while now and finally, we saw the motorcycle in pictures and how it looks in the production process. The motorcycle unveiled and BMW Motorrad dealers in India began bookings for this motorcycle with prices declared for Europe and the USA. Team carandbike talked to a few BMW Motorrad dealers in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi, and confirmed bookings for a token of Rs 1 lakh.
BMW Motorrad India has not yet made it official, but we hope that the company will confirm the same thing in the coming months, once things get returning to normal after the Coronavirus crisis that has hit the world. With international deliveries scheduled to begin in late 2020, we expect the BMW R18 to arrive in India by the end of the year or early in 2021. There may also be a chance that the motorcycle may arrive in very limited numbers in India. The BMW R18 motorcycle will have two versions, the regular version, and the First Edition.
The bike style is old-school classic and influenced by the old BMW R5 launched in the late 1930s. The motorcycle is stunning and a heavyweight cruiser. It has a traditional classic design with a tear-drop form fuel tank, standard 49mm gabels on the front and cleverly hidden cantilever mono-shock on the back to give the motorcycle a hard-tail look. Then you’ve got chrome splashes all over, beautifully crafted exhaust pipes with fish-tail tips and old-school valve covers along with a round LED headlamp and wire-spoke wheels.
Apart from the design, the majority of the talk around the motorcycle was about the 1802cc boxer-twin engine, where the heads jumped from the sides of the motorcycle. The engine air-cooled, oil-cooled, produces 91bhp of peak power at 4,750rpm, and a massive 157Nm of maximum torque at just 3,000rpm. The bike engine coupled to a 6-speed gearbox uses a final shaft drive instead of a chain drive or a belt drive, and it also opts for a low-speed reverse gear.
